Being John Fedorowicz: Samson Benen, Ron Young, Elizabeth Vicary and Lew Eisen win big at the 2000 Amatuer Team East"Being John Fedorowicz" overwhelmed the judges for The Best Costume Prize at the 2000 U.S. Amateur Team East, comprised of Marshall Manager Ron Young, Samson Benen, Lewis Eisen, and Elizabeth Vicary.

Note: the Marshall now has a Senior Membership for $160 a year, and a Patron Membership (voluntary) for $500 a year.

We regret the loss of Past President Milton Finkelstein and also long time Marshall Governor and noted chess teacher. May he rest in peace.

We are planning a revival of the very successful workshop for members Under 1800 on Tuesday nights, led by Original Life Master Douglas Bellizzi.

We are also planning a Beginners Class on Monday Nights with Original Life Master Lawrence Tamarkin, which may be open to nonmembers. Call for further information.

Mondays are now social chess nights at the Marshall Chess Club. Nonmember chess players are entitled to two visits before joining.

Dimitry Schneider won the 1999 Marshall Chess Club Championship with 4 1/2 points out of 6. He defeated Yuri Lapshun in the last round who had been tied for first with Jay Bonin going into the last round with 4 points. Dimitry is the youngest Marshall CC champ in history.

The Marshall Chess Club extends its condolence to the family of Marshall member, and outstanding chess patron, Mr. Faneuil Adams, who died on March 22, 1999. For his obituary, click here.

Both of the top teams in the 2000 US Amateur Team Championship had Marshall members: James West , and Dean Ippolito. Dean's father, Joe Ippolito has been elected to the USCF Executive Board.

The 1998 Interplay U.S. Junior Chess Championship, co-hosted by the Marshall in conjunction with with Borough of Manhattan Community College was won by Marshall member IM Igor Shliperman. IM Shliperman defeated Michael Mulyar in a playoff to win the 10 player event. Marshall members Donny Ariel and Dean Ippolito also participated. Click HERE for games and other information.

Congratulations to Marshall member Donny Ariel who made an IM norm in the 2000 World Open . Donny also played in the Interplay U.S. Junior Championship. He is depicted here playing Jennifer Shahade in the 2000 CCA Tournament of Champions.
